THE CALIFORNIA STREET LONGBOARD (AND NOW SHORTBOARD)

CLASSIC SURF CONTEST BRINGS A VERY SPECIAL RIDE TO TOWN

(Ventura, CA) – The 24th annual California Street Longboard Classic Surf Contest returns to Surfer’s Point September 18-19, offering surfers fun competition in both longboard and shortboard divisions, and beach lovers of any kind a taste of the California magic and easygoing vibe that has made the C Street Classic one of the longest running and most popular amateur contests in Southern California.

Also on the Classic docket, a Saturday night showing (show time dusk) of “Pacific Vibrations” outdoors in the parking lot of Foams, Fins & Fiberglass (291 East Thompson Boulevard, just back from Surfer’s Point), a tandem surfing exhibition and the Old Log Event (no leash, no wetsuit, and a longboard at least 35 years old). Proving that surfing means taking nothing too seriously, the C Street Classic also features the popular “Cosmic Stinkbug Expression Session”; costume-wearing surfers pursuing two aims – disdaining any rules, while trying to make the judges laugh (Stinkbug entry fees benefit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital).

The Ventura Surf Club will also raffle off two Patagonia wetsuits.

In addition to numerous surfing related sellers, The Ventura Surf Club will also hold a raffle for surfboards, wetsuits and skateboards.

Skateboarding demonstrations throughout the event.

This year’s contest will be held in conjunction with the Aloha Beach Festival, also held along Ventura’s beachfront promenade. The Aloha Festival features dozens of local artisans, music and salt and sun fun, from paddle board races to Frisbee demonstrations.

We had unreal sessions when the dolphins surfed with us.They are a lot bigger then you might imagine.. Mostly they showed up when surf was going off.

Ventura is not really Southern California, it is the beginning of Central California and we have colder currents and more of ruggedness to our beaches. Because our part of the coast is tipped southwards, our eastern horizon is the Santa Monica Mountains. As fall comes on, and into winter, we are given some really spectacular dawn colors. The Eastern horizon glows scarlet and orange as you paddle out for Dawn Patrol, and the Ventura Pier and mountains are black silhouettes that remind me of 1930’s wood block prints. The Western horizon will be soft, smoky lavender that gradates up into the palest blue. At certain times of the month, as you sit and wait for waves, the rising sun and the setting moon will hover at the same level on their respective horizons, and you just feel as though you are at the pinnacle of balance between day and night.-Leslie Broude|Ventura, Ca

This is where I had the honor of being a member of the Ventura Surf Club;
one of the best group of surfers I was ever be lucky enough to surf with.
This is also where I learned about pollution, the effects of plastic & chemicals especially the ocean.
My journey started here in Ventura seeking healthier life alternatives.
Check out the VSC for news & events, they are always doing something fun and charitable
