About Surf For Life

Surf For Life is a non-profit organization designed to connect surfers and non-surfers with community service activities to create impact at an international level. The mission of the organization is to channel the interest and energy of individual surfers into teams that travel internationally to various project sites where they serve as hands-on volunteers.

Surf For Life trips are open to anyone: Experienced surfers, beginners, people who are interested in taking up the sport and non-surfers. The common point of interest of all participants is their commitment to contribute to the advancement of a social cause. Surf For Life offers an alternative vacation option that combines recreation with community service opportunities. We are matching surf teams with various international destinations that combine world class surfing and opportunities for social philanthropy.

Surf For Life channels interested individuals into teams of 10-12 participants and sends them to help hands-on with construction, remodeling and other projects around the world. Each team member is responsible to engage in personal and team fundraising efforts to cover all cost, including tools, building materials and a local foreman.

We are excited to offer a new and altruistic type of travel - 'volun-tourism' - that takes individual vacation to a new level benefitting local communities. To find out more details, please check out Our Programs.

Global Programs | Puerto Viejo 2010

In March & April 2010 Surf For Life volunteer teams are heading to Puerto Viejo, Costa Rica. Every week a new team of volunteers are helping hands-on with construction and community projects benefiting the children of the indigenous BriBri tribe. Although Puerto Viejo thrives with tourism, the BriBri people live under severe conditions in the adjacent mountain region. Apart from extreme poverty (by UN standard), medical needs and illiteracy, the BriBri children have no way to attend Puerto Viejo’s schools regularly since the remote mountain paths leading to town are often impassable or flooded. Surf For Life is committed to helping volunteers participate in meaningful social and economic development projects designed to benefit the Bri Bri and the community of Puerto Viejo.

And now we need you to make them a reality!

Be part of this awesome opportunity to make a hands-on difference in the community of Puerto Viejo. Join us in the construction and remodeling of schools & community facilities, building bridges, maintaining trails and helping out with social services such as the local soup kitchen.

Surf for Life-Australia is a project that aims to reach the youth of the Northern Beaches with a message that there is a hope for their future. This message centers on encouraging them to value themselves as people, set and attain goals in their lives, and have the courage to say no to those influences which take life away like drugs and suicide. This is to be done by contact at monthly surfing contests, in-school programs, and weekend surfing camps. The surfing contests are run over a weekend once a month and include a BBQ and presentation of prizes, and a guest speaker.
